Both on behalf of Burbage Heritage Group and our family I would like to say how sorry we are to hear about the passing of John.
He was the first vice chair of Burbage Heritage Group and I recall many happy times John and May welcomed us to the farm shared their passion of Burbage common

Condolence May Young John Shelia and family, a true gentleman thanks John for the times we chatted in the cafe.

I wish to send the family my condolence on the loss of the area's last true "Commoner".
John's remarkable contribution to the community and the environment with his stewardship of the land and habitats around Burbage Common has resulted in all age groups in the community appreciating the natural world on their doorstep.
His continuous battles with officialdom and their poor record keeping ensured that the Common mapping was correct and that all the local rights of way were kept open and maintained, which then enabled his desire to enshrine these rights and privileges for all local residents for the future.
John's wit and willingness to passionately impart his local knowledge over the fence in conversation or over a cup of honey tea in the farmhouse will be missed.
It was a privilege to have known him, May and their family.

Dear May and family, so sorry to hear of John's death. He was such a wonderful person, with so much knowledge - we had so much fun hedge laying! He had a great deal of information about the Common and woodland and we so enjoyed the cafe. He will be greatly missed.0
