We were heartbroken to learn of Ian’s passing. For the last ten years, he was more than just a good neighbour – he was a kind, thoughtful presence who made our street a warmer and friendlier place.
Please accept our deepest sympathy during this terrible time.
With love and sincere condolences,
Harry and Fiona

Harry, as we knew him, was a lovely old fashioned kind of soldier, although a big strong bloke never bullied any of sproggs, invited me into the battery bar (you had to be invited) he also taught me to double clutch on the old Bedford Lorries, gave me my last driving lesson before I took and passed my test and gave me some great advice to get me through it.
I was also on his detachment as his signaller for a short time, I would definitely have attended and would have been proud to either, help carry him or provide a guard of honour but unfortunately I am in South East Asia until after this lovely blokes funeral.

Ian,
You played an enormous part in my inspiration and aspirations in joining the army. You were always a role model and I can only hope to be as a good a full-screw as you were. I'll keep striving and think of you at every obstacle I face.

Harry was a real gent, great fun at work and the battery bar. Ultimate professional. Harry taught me to drive in Germany and then invited me round to his house for dinner. He’ll be sadly missed. RIP Ian.

Dad, you were my anchor through all the years. My best friend and partner in crime. Ben will miss your chats and gaming nights. We'll have a drink together later, Dad, till then watch the boys grow and know I'll think of you everyday.
Love you, talk later xxx
