This is so sad that Clive has been taken by this cruel illness. I worked with Clive at Russells Hall hospital in the 80s not long after he had qualified & where he met & later married my lovely school friend Jill. All our love & best wishes go to Jill & the rest of the family at this sad time.

Thank you so much, Dr Ryder, for your world class expertise and being such a lovely human. I'm so sorry to learn of your passing. You cared for our daughter and supported us so well. I'm so sorry you're not longer here, it's a great loss to the world.

Dear Jill, James, Sarah and Chris
Clive was a remarkable person who has inspired so many of us with his caring, compassionate and good humoured nature. I, like many others, found my career path as a result of his passion for Paediatric Rheumatology, caring for his patients and joy of team working. I will always value his support and guidance in those early years. I loved his openness, sense of fun and friendship. I learned so much from his example about how to be a good doctor.
Clive was clearly much loved and respected and will be missed by all who knew him but leaves a legacy of inspiration to live your best life.
My thoughts are with you all during this difficult time.

With love and very best wishes

Rest in peace Dr Ryder. I would like to thank you for the many years of kind and compassionate care you gave my son. I remember your humour in difficult situations "I was having lunch and was a bit bored, so I decided to come and look at a foot". I want to send my sincere condolences to your family. You will be greatly missed but are remembered with great fondness and respect for your humanity and professional ability. (Steve Kedge)

Rest In Peace, Dr. Ryder.

I am very sad to read this, I was under his care at BCH as a child.

My parents and I appreciated his kindness, support and humour throughout the early years of my diagnosis.

Sending love to family and friends at this difficult time xx

Lots of love,

We are so saddened to find out about Clive. He was our daughter Victorias rheumatologist at BCH from when she was diagnosed at 5 to when she lost her battle with JIA at 13. Clive was her hero, his care, outstanding skill as a rheumatologist and unique wit helped her through many of her battles. Clive always said her disease didnt follow the rule book; Im sure his style didnt follow any rule books either but he was quite simply the best!
To the Ryder family, whilst there are no words that can diminish the pain you are feeling right now, we really do hope the love and respect which Clive is held in by so many people will help to ease the pain.

You are all in our thoughts and prayers.

Sending condolences to the family and friends of Dr Ryder. A brilliant paediatric rheumatologist who made such a difference to many families who had a child with a diagnosis of JIA in the Birmingham area. Thoughts and prayers are with you today. From the Committee and all the families at CCAA Kids with Arthritis. 🐧

Sending heartfelt condolences to all Clives family and friends at this very sad time.
I remember Clive mainly as a boy as Ive been friends with Joanne for sixty years.
Clive was born on the same day as my own brother and their mothers, both living in Datchet, remembered meeting each- other in the village wearing the same polka dot maternity dress.

It was always clear that Clive would go far. The impact of his career has been substantial in the lives of many and he has clearly lived a hugely full, happy life himself.

With very best wishes,

Fiona Booth ( née Coyne)

To the Ryder family,

Please accept my thoughts and prayers for you at this sad time. I am so terribly saddened to hear of the loss of your husband, dad and grandad.

I worked as Clives registrar in Birmingham Childrens in 2004/2005. He made every day a joy! His humour was unique and we had so much fun as a team because of Clive. In addition to the fun he was also unquestionably the best clinician I have ever worked with and what I aspire to be like every day.
We shall all miss him terribly but are the better of having had Clive in our lives.

You shall be in my thoughts today for his funeral service.

With love

I shall always remember Clive with great joy and a broad smile. We first met in the Department of Rheumatology at QEH Birmingham in the late 80s and enjoyed many games of golf since. Clive was always terrific company and despite his easy manner, fiercely competitive - he knew how to win a game.
His humour was unique. Ill never forget an evening after golf in Norfolk where he had us in stitches extolling the virtues of chocolate confectionary of the 1970s and 80s. It was textbook Clive.

With deepest sympathy
Paul
