Messages Of Condolence

Cheryl, where do I start? Nearly 22 years ago, I joined the Shilton family and you welcomed me in with open arms.

I am the luckiest person to have had you as my mother-in-law. You stood by my side through the toughest part of my life, and I can never thank you enough for that.

Cheryl, you were the glue that held this family together. You cherished your children, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter, and you always treated me as one of your own.

I have so many beautiful memories with you—enough to write a whole book. But my greatest memory will always be how you showed me how to fight. You taught me that strength while bravely fighting your own battle with cancer. I watched you every single week, and no matter what you were going through, you showed up for me with a smile on your face. I remember thinking, "If she can do this, so can I." Thank you for giving me that strength.

Thank you for welcoming me into your family, and I promise you right now that I will always be there for Stuart, Paige, Isabelle, Jordon, and Angel, as well as Mick, Richard, Vicky, and all the children, no matter what.

Thank you for being the absolute best mother-in-law. ❤️

Love you so much,
Rest in peace.
Tara xx

Today, I want to speak about you mum, and about what family really means when life becomes difficult. I hope people will listen.

We went through hard times together. There were days filled with fear, exhaustion, and heartbreak as we faced cancer as a family. But through all of it, one thing never changed — we stayed together.

Mum, I tried to give you everything you asked for. Not because I had to, but because you deserved it. Every appointment, every difficult conversation, every moment of care came from love. The care you needed was never a burden — it was something we carried together as a family.

The milestone that mattered most to you was reached, being married to dad for 50 years was your goal and I know how important that was. Seeing that happen meant everything, because your happiness and peace mattered more than anything else.

Cancer tested all of us. It tested our strength, our patience, and our hearts. But it also showed us the depth of our love and what we are capable of when we stand beside the people we love most with you the Queen of the clan.

Mum, I would do it all again. Every sleepless night, every hard day, every sacrifice — I would do it again without hesitation. Because family means showing up for each other, especially when times are hardest.

You taught us resilience, courage, and unconditional love. And no matter what happens, those lessons stay with us forever. Stuart will carry your stubbornness with him so we will always know you are with us. You will always be with us.

Thank you, Mum, for everything. We faced it together, and we will carry that love with us always.

Time to rest now. Your battle is over. I love you to the stars and back. X

Cheryl,
The kindest, most thoughtful, loyal, loving and selfless person I have ever had the pleasure to meet.
I'm proud to have had you as my sister in law for all these years.
All my love, Lee.

Over forty years ago, when Mum and Dad moved to St John’s Close, none of us could have imagined that they were about to meet the kind of friends who become part of your life forever. Cheryl and Mick weren’t just neighbours — they became family. The kind of friends you don’t need to see or speak to all the time because you always know they’re there when you need them. The kind of friends who stay through every chapter of life. Cheryl and Mick were exactly that. The best of the best.
Thank you, Cheryl, for being a part of our family’s story. For the friendship, the memories, the love, and the years of shared life. You will always be remembered and always missed.
🩷
Love always
Sue, Claire and Kirsty xxxx

I have quite a few memories of Cheryl... From helping with the girls football fundraisers, to many little chats when we were in each other's company.

However my fondest memory was after we had all completed the 5k muddy run (or half/half in my case) for Cheryl and Tara to raise money for cancer research. We were stood in the kitchen at Stu and Tara's house when Cheryl appeared with a bottle of vodka, eyes full of tears, gave me the biggest hug and thanked me for raising money towards the cause. I didnt want to take it as we didnt raise the money for gifts, we raised the money for them and others in a less fortunate position than we find ourselves in, however I could see just how passionate Cheryl was for the cause and eventually obliged as she wasnt taking no for an answer! A little cuddle and tear or 2 later and we were both in the garden, under the gazebo soaking up the shade on a hot summers day having laughs and jokes as a collective whilst Stu and Richard slaved over the BBQ preparing the food for us all...

Cheryl definitely touched my life, and will definitely live long in my memories, as I know she will in many others who were fortunate enough to meet her...

R.I.P Cheryl, and thank you for everything xxx
