Only just heard the sad news my lovely old friend, of 32 years , has gone ! Very sad indeed. Can’t believe I won’t speak to her again. She was a diamond , always looked after me , we joked she was my fairy godmother . We had a lovely trip to visit the family in Newfoundland in 2009. Will never forget her.
But what a life she had !

We were shocked and saddened to learn of Bernadette’s sudden passing,my sisters and I grew up with Bernadette in Bishop’s Falls. she was so much fun to be around and she spent a a good portion of her teen years at our home as we did her’s, listening to musing and dancing. We were so looking forward to the time when she would come home to visit again! Sincere condolences to her family, she will be greatly missed! The Kelly Girls

It’s been a month and I still am in shock of her unexpected passing. How do you find the right words to sum up Bernadette? She was a large personality for sure! I didn’t really to get to know my cousin Bernadette until 18 years ago when she moved back to Newfoundland. She and my mother were very close. They grew up in Bishop Falls and although Bernadette was an only child, the families of aunts and uncles were extremely close knit and it’s why she would always say they grew up more as siblings than cousins. My husband, children and I referred to Bernadette as our Aunt. She took a great interest in my life and my family. We spoke every week and she took pride in all our life accomplishments, such as report cards, graduation, a new job and of course….she worried about us as well. She definitely filled a void left in our lives after my mother passed.
As mentioned by the others that left condolence messages, everyone knew of her love for story-telling and entertaining. She lived each day trying to find something humorous in what was happening around her, and if her imagination and a stretch of the truth would draw a laugh… then so it would be when she retold the event “a story” later. I believe she felt it was her purpose in life to bring laughter to others. She felt that was her role when at a gathering and she prepared her “stories” for those occasions.
Many of us also know that she felt strongly about thanking the people whose jobs often went unnoticed or unappreciated. She would send flowers to the doctor’s receptionist and the local pharmacist. I once saw her tipping $20 to the gas attendant for filling her car! She really wanted to put a smile on your face and make your day a good one. She recognized that when you showed kindness to others that kindness would be returned. When visiting with her I discovered that every week on recycling day and on garbage collection days she waited anxiously to bring them out a package of biscuits as a thank you. “Something for them to have with their coffee break” she told me. It was the highlight of her week to do this! These acts of kindness and creating smiles were very important to her… and something maybe we all should consider as we rush through our busy days in this crazy world.

Love you Bernadette…Bye…Bye…Bye….
