Messages Of Condolence

Mick and I were good friends for several years during the mid to late 1950s and early 1960s. We lived close to each other and went to Cubs, Scouts and youth club together (the last was where we also met Gill). Scouts met at the St.Peter's church hall in the middle of a very rough housing estate. At the end of each meeting the locked doors of the hall would be opened wide and Mick and I would erupt on our drop handled 'racing' bikes and try to out-run the local lads lying in ambush on their cow-handled bikes (not always successfully). If you got caught you were set about with bicycle chains and fists, so it was good that our bikes were usually faster than theirs.

We lost touch a year or two after leaving grammar school. I eventually found a job in London and never went back to live in the Leicester area but I knew that Mick and Gill had got together and was pleased that two friends had found each other. They were good times.

So condolences to Gill and family from Tony & Hilary Vines

Michael, Mick my dear brother …. Thank you for being a good brother to me

I remember that you were just over 2 years older than me and as children I always wanted that special toy that you had for Christmas … you kept that Hornby railway train in it’s box in pristine condition until I managed to get my hands on it.

I remember that we used to fight and scrap and you always managed to pin me down with your extra weight until I screamed.

I remember when you locked me out of the house and I broke the door glass trying to get back in. Dad got the strap out for that one.

I remember mum dressing us up for the May Fair Celebrations and you went as a Television.

I remember you looking out for me at school and outside school when I tagged along, much to your annoyance.

Then we grew up and married and had our own children and I remember all the good times we had together with our families. You always laughed at our silliness and we never lost touch. You even made the journey with Gill to Australia to see me and Shirley and we remember waving our Union Jacks as you left for the airport.

So many memories and such fun with you over the years.

Farewell dear brother ... miss you bro

your brother Steve
Stephen Dickson
