Last week, our Managing Director, Joseph Barsby had an important and productive meeting with Mike Freer MP who is overseeing the response to the likely regulation of the funeral profession amid the police investigation into a funeral directors in Hull.

They delved into various aspects of the profession with the key focus on making sure regulation is proportionate, laser focused and quantitative.

At G. Seller, we’re committed to providing the highest levels of bereavement care to every family we’re privileged to serve and are pleased to extend an invitation to Mike and his team to make a visit to our premises. It’s important to demonstrate that there are high standards in our profession and what has happened in Hull isn’t representative of the wider funeral profession.

Regulation is long overdue, contrary to common belief, there isn’t a mandatory minimum standard of facilities or experience to be a funeral director. Although, there are two reputable trade associations, the National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD) and The Society Of Allied Independent Funeral Directors (SAIF) that have codes of practice and inspection of premises regimes. But someone doesn’t have to be a member of either of these trade associations to be able to become a funeral director!

Trust, compassion, integrity and high standards has to be synonymous with our profession, it is a vocation, not a job.

Special thanks to Dr Luke Evans - MP for Bosworth for facilitating the meeting and championing our cause. Together, we're committed to driving necessary change for the betterment of the bereaved. There's still much work ahead, but we're steadfast in our dedication to fostering positive change.
