Putting great British family businesses on the map.

The 19th April saw the start of the tour of some of the UK’s most successful family businesses with the launch of The Family Business Road Trip in Hull and we were delighted to be included in this innovative tour of family firms. This event celebrates the essential contribution family firms make to national GDP and regional economies and with over 4 million family firms in the UK contributing more than £1.4 trillion in turnover to the economy there is a lot to celebrate.

Over six weeks, the tour will meet with families behind some of the UK’s most noteworthy businesses, including Rix Petroleum, Aspalls Cyder, World Transport Agency, JW Lees Brewery, Shepcote, HMG Paints, Bagnalls and English Lakes Hotels. As Penny Lovell, Head of Private Client Services at Close Brothers Asset Management and one of the sponsors of the 2016 Family Business Road Trip said: “The importance of family businesses to the UK economy cannot be understated, and  this is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the essential  contribution they make.”

Joseph Barsby, Director of G. Seller and Co is delighted that the family firm has been included, adding, “As the next generation of the Barsby family to enter the family firm, we are pleased to be associated with a campaign like this which recognises the contribution that family firms like ours make to the communities in which we are privileged to serve. We have been serving bereaved families in Hinckley and the surrounding areas for over a 100 years. Today, we continue our tradition of a compassionate, attentive and professional funeral service and are incredibly proud of our roots, as a family, and as a family business too.”

Paul Andrews, Founder and Managing director of Family Business United concludes: “Family firms are the very backbone of the UK economy, and we are excited to be meeting with some of the best known family businesses in the UK, as well as some lesser-known hidden gems. We want to celebrate the businesses that do so much for the country, by helping them to link up and share the knowledge and experience of other family businesses, as well as having access to advice from who are committed to helping family businesses shine.

The Family Business Road Trip is a great way for us to champion the sector and to help put some great British family businesses on the map.”
