This morning our team enjoyed breakfast whilst joining together to celebrate and recognise the team members that go ‘Above & Beyond’ for G Seller.
Everyone is welcome to vote for a colleague of their choosing and this month we were delighted to appreciate 2 of our valued employees, Kirri & Paul.
Kirri has been recognised for returning to work after a period of maternity leave with a great working attitude. Kirri is thoughtful, friendly, a good team player and always striving to achieve what the family wish for. It’s like she has never left and we are so pleased to have her back!
Paul has been voted for numerous times in the past, most notably for his dedication, professionalism and his attitude that demonstrates nothing is too much trouble. Paul is exceptional when driving the hearse, always lining up the back wheel with the funeral director and always knowing his route.
Thank you to everyone who voted and well done to Kirri and Paul, we hope you enjoy your gifts.
Family Business United created their annual awards ceremony in 2012 to celebrate the UK family business sector. To recognise the diversity of family firms across the country and to celebrate the contribution that they make.
These prestigious awards are now in their eleventh year and have become an integral part of the family business calendar.
We are delighted to announce that G Seller have been shortlisted for the award of Family Business of The Year in the Midlands and Central region category.
The winner of this category may then go on to become the next overall Supreme Champion Family Business of the Year for 2023.
The awards ceremony takes place tomorrow evening, and we would like to extend our best wishes to all other businesses that have been shortlisted and recognised for their contributions.
Here is our Embalmer & Funeral Operative Jason being presented with his Above & Beyond prize in November by Director Amy.
This recognition prize was voted for by Jason’s colleagues, and here’s some of the lovely things that were said about him:
I’ve noticed Jason often comes in early to organise The Chapels of Rest and often over the weekend to get ahead of the game. I think Jason deserves recognition as he spends an awful lot of time alone in the embalming room. It should be noted his efforts are appreciated.
He does a difficult job with very little fuss and needs reminding how appreciative we all are.
He continues to give his all every day without fail and always goes out of his way in his own time to make sure that those in our care are looked after in exactly the same way he’d want his loved ones to be looked after.
Each month the whole team gather to enjoy breakfast together, and find out who had been recognised for their ‘Above & Beyond’ contributions.
See below October’s recipient Jack being presented with a gift from Managing Director Joseph.
Here are just a few of the lovely things Jack’s colleagues had to say about him when voting for their winner this month:
“Always arrives early and nothing is too much trouble, Jack really has become a part of the team and embraces his role. It’s a pleasure to work with him.”
“Incredibly helpful and willing in all that he does. He’s in early every morning, making sure the conveyance vehicles are on the car park and we’re set up for the day. It doesn’t go unnoticed and is greatly appreciated by the team.”
Well Done Jack, it’s a pleasure to work alongside you!
Family Business United has created the inaugural Family Business Top 100 which showcases some of the best of family business individuals across the UK. Nominations were sought from all corners of the UK and all sectors of the economy. Entrants must have been working in a senior position within the business for at least five years. This campaign and the creation of the inaugural report into the Family Business Top 100 is the perfect way to showcase these individuals, recognising their efforts and demonstrating their collective importance to our national economy.
As Paul Andrews, Founder of Family Business United who have created this report explains, “Family businesses are the backbone of the UK economy and often the unsung heroes too. Family firms are significant contributors to the economy in terms of jobs provided, income generated and wealth created and behind each family firm are individuals driving them, making decisions and looking to the future. Family firms take the long term view and invest in their businesses and the communities in which they operate and we wanted to create the Family Business Top 100 to recognise outstanding individuals within these organisations and to shine a light on the people that are making a difference within the business and more broadly too.”
“What better way to celebrate the vibrancy of a sector than to highlight the people within family businesses, leading from the front, fulfilling a role as a steward for future generations, those developing sustainable practices and acting as innovators and agents of change, the next generation embarking on key initiatives that will drive the next stage in the family business journey and those that have delivered a lifetime of service and commitment to the family business. Each and every one of them deserves to be recognised and celebrated. It is these individuals and the family firms they are associated with that is at the very heart of what we do – championing family firms across the whole of the UK and beyond.”
“The past few years have not been easy and pulling the Family Business Top 100 together has provided us all with the opportunity to celebrate the contribution of family firms and the significant impact that individuals within them make each and every day. Family business matters and we are proud to celebrate and showcase 100 individuals who are truly deserving of their place in the inaugural report. Congratulations to each and every one of them and their contribution to an exceptional body of family business talent,” concludes Paul.

Here at G. Seller we are naturally delighted to have been shortlisted, and for us this category reflects the true essence of who we are as a family firm.

Seller has been established since 1910 and has been passed down through the generations. We are proud of our heritage and well respected name in the local community for caring for families when they need us most.”
“Today, we are still committed to providing the highest levels of bereavement care to every family we have the privilege to serve and recognition in these awards is truly special, something that the whole team here at G. The Winner and two Highly Commended family firms in each category will be announced at a prestigious black tie Awards Ceremony & Dinner on Thursday 7 November at the King Power Stadium in Leicester.
Last night saw the culmination of the 2019 Leicester Mercury Business Awards where G. Seller took the title for Customer Service Excellence which was presented at a prestigious ceremony by Mazars UK.
Joseph Barsby, Managing Director of G. Seller attended with members of the team and was delighted with the result. He added, “As a business looking after families at their time of need, customer service is at the heart of what we do. In fact, it is the real essence of who we are as a business and has been for over 100 years. We have an amazing team who go above and beyond for families each and every day, recognising that we have one chance to get it right and provide the funeral they want for their loved one. We have a remarkable team and this award would not have been possible without them.”
As Amy Barsby, Director of G. Seller adds, “Winning an award for customer service is always great but when your business is about caring for people like ours, it is extra special. Our staff are fantastic and it was great that we were able to celebrate the win with them on the night. As a family we are extremely proud of what we do and for the business and our ‘extended family’ winning this award makes us immensely proud to continue to serve the families in our community.”
As a business, G. Seller have been serving the needs of families for over a 100 years. Today, we continue our tradition of a compassionate, attentive and professional funeral service.
