We have written this guide to complement the end of life plan which families are asked to consider when a loved one goes into residential care or a nursing home.
We all want the best possible care for our loved ones. You have no doubt deliberated over and researched the home that you have selected and we believe you should be given the same information about your local funeral director, for when the time comes to choose one.
We are the oldest and only independent funeral directors in the Hinckley & Bosworth Borough, owned by the Barsby family since 1964 and now under the director of the 3rd generation, Joseph C. Barsby.
What can we do to help you in your time of need?
- We assure you that a member of our own staff will personally answer the telephone 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
- We will advise you of the immediate steps to be taken following the death of a loved one.
- Your own dedicated Funeral Director will guide you through all necessary arrangements.
- We can offer a bespoke funeral service, whereby you can choose what you want for your loved one.
- We promise that your loved one will be looked after as one of our own and treated with the utmost dignity and respect at all times.
There are many decisions to be considered regarding what a loved one may or may not want for their own funeral arrangements.
The question of burial or cremation is one that none of us really want to think about, but as the structure of a funeral is based around a service of committal, it is important to know what the thoughts of the individual are. We can offer a unique free Pre-Arrangement service that allows the individual to sit down with a member of our staff who will document and record all of their wishes, and hold them safely on file. A little bit like a will, it can be amended as and when, but with no up-front cost. You may also have seen many companies advertising Pre-Paid Funeral Plans. We always advise caution. The Co-Operative Society have their own plans, as do the larger conglomerate Dignity Funeral Services. Dignity are a company who have no local funeral homes in the Hinckley & Bosworth area*. We would also recommend caution when considering plans being sold by cold-calling, mail drops, newspaper and magazine flyers, coupons, Will-Writers and Independent Financial Advisers (IFA’s). You cannot be guaranteed that the plan you may be sold will be undertaken by your preferred Funeral Director. The company we endorse is Golden Charter Funeral Plans. Rather than offer a package service, we prefer to give our clients bespoke funeral options. This means that they can add or deduct the various components to personalise and tailor the plan to the needs of the individual, however simplistic or extravagant.
Payment of home care and care home fees – something to consider?
Bearing in mind the current upper savings threshold in England above which the person has to pay all their costs for going into care, is £23,250*, you may consider this a legitimate option to reduce your loved one’s savings. Lower savings threshold in England (below which a person’s savings are no longer taken into account, although all other income including benefits and pensions is still counted) is £14,250*. We can guarantee our service charges in all our estimates. Regrettably we have no control over the third party charges (cemetery / crematorium / church fees) which we pay on your behalf. However, we can give an accurate costing at today’s prices, to which you can make a contribution to. If you want to consider either of these services we invite you to contact us. There is no obligation, and advice comes free of charge.
